Anniversary sound wave art
Anniversary gifts are hard when you have already given each other everything. A print made from the sound of your relationship, such as the song you danced to, your vows or a voicemail that still makes you smile, is personal in a way that flowers and jewellery are not.

Sounds that make the best anniversary gifts
Pick the one with the strongest memory. A gift works best when the person recognises it instantly without needing an explanation.
- The first song you danced to, or the one playing when you met.
- Your wedding vows. Many couples never listen to theirs again; this brings them back.
- A voicemail or voice note from early in your relationship.
- The sound of your first child's laugh, or a family recording from the year you were married.
- A song written for you, or one you cannot hear without thinking about each other.
Matching the gift to the year
Traditional anniversary themes can guide the design. For a first anniversary (paper), a print is already the right material. For the fifth (wood) choose a natural wood frame. For the tenth (tin or aluminium) a metallic colour palette in silver or pewter works well. For a twenty-fifth (silver) try silver on deep navy, and for a fiftieth (gold) gold on cream. You do not have to follow tradition, but it gives you a reason for the colours.
Making it step by step
- Choose the audio and trim it to the most recognisable minute. Most songs have a chorus or a bridge that anyone will know.
- Open the editor with the anniversary template and add the file.
- Pick a style. Circular designs look like a record or a ring, which suits anniversaries. Bars suit a classic look.
- Add the date you met or married, your names and a short line, for example "Our song, 12 years".
Sizes, frames and presentation
For a gift, portrait 8 by 10 inches (20 by 25 cm) is easiest to wrap. For a bedroom wall 11 by 14 inches (28 by 36 cm) is a safer choice. A mat board with a wide border feels like a gallery piece.
Presentation matters. Wrap the frame with a note on the back that tells the story: where you were, what you were doing, why the song matters. The note is often the part people keep.
Ideas for a series
- Add a new print every year, each with a different song or recording, until you have a wall.
- Make a pair: one waveform from each person's favourite song, hung next to each other.
- Create a before-and-after: the first message you sent each other next to the latest.
- Pair the print with tickets to a concert, a playlist or a dinner at the place where the song was playing.
Mistakes to avoid
- Do not use a full ten minute song if only one minute means something. The waveform becomes too dense.
- Do not add too much text. Names, a date and one line are enough.
- Do not choose a low-resolution export for a large print. Check the size before you order.
- Do not leave the order to the last day. Printing and shipping take time.
Questions
What if we have different favourite songs?
Make two prints and hang them together, or choose a section of each and combine them in one image if the editor allows. Two small prints side by side are often more interesting than one.
Can I add both our names and a date?
Yes. Text is added below or around the waveform. Names, date and a short phrase are the usual choices.
